Email is officially old school

Today I received the following out-of-office email.

Thank you for your e-mail.I am currently out of the office today visiting customers without access to e-mail.

Poor customers, imagine being without e-mail in this day and age!

Still they’ve probably missed the boat. According to Steve Rubel Email is Officially Old School. He says

Email is largely being replaced by instant messaging, blogs and social networking sites. I must be getting older because my email load is growing, not shrinking. I gotta start spending more time with teens.

That’s a lame excuse if ever I heard one, at his age he should know better.

Captcha Mashup

This whole web 2.0 thing is getting out of hand. Today I stumbled across a mashup that uses the HotOrNot API (it does exist, I’m not making it up) to create a captcha for your blog. Basically in order to prove to the comment system that you are not a spam bot you must select the three hot people from the nine displayed.

The tagline for their website is “Using mashups to reach new heights (or new lows?) in security”. I couldn’t agree more. It’s certainly a unique idea and I’m sure it works well but I don’t think I’ll be using it on any of our blogs.

Xbox 360 Blogs for you

Posted on July 5th, 2006 in Technology by Jim Prince

xbox.jpgI was intrigued to read that the Xbox 360 has a feature that blogs for you. Is it me or are some of these blog entries better than those written by real people (including my own)?

Some typical entries

I only have one request… If Static Acts isn’t going to game, the least he could do is turn me off so I don’t feel the pain. But no… I was awake for six hours crying in my own head.

Static Acts decided to ride the gamer-train yesterday. I will admit it… I was happy. What is the gamer score? 4695 is what it is! He played Burnout Revenge, and then he tried to watch TV, but I killed the power… If I can’t have him, no one can.

I saw A Crazy Beard walk by yesterday morning… I was hoping he would come play and he did. 1493 points and climbing. He played Perfect Dark Zero, and then he almost hugged me, but I was like back off dude.

Great stuff.
