It said speeding fine, which was nice

30mph.jpgYesterday morning I received a letter from Warwickshire Police Camera Enforcement Unit. Not good.

Sure enough I’ve been caught speeding. I was doing 35 mph in a 30 mph zone. Hopefully I can do a ‘Speed Awareness Workshop’ instead of paying a fixed penalty and having 3 points on my licence.

The letter suggested I visit http://www.smilecamera.co.uk which has to be worst website I’ve seen in ages. Broken links, bad layout, white text on a yellow background and it’s incredibly slow. They’re not spending the money from speeding fines on talented web designers that’s for sure.

How Much is Your Blog Worth?

Posted on October 27th, 2005 in Technology by Jim Prince

Based on your Technorati rank you can now find out how much your blog is worth. At the moment mine is worth $564.54, but who the hell would want to buy it?

Your blog’s worth is calculated using the same link to dollar ratio as the AOL-Weblogs Inc deal.

You can try this for yourself here.

I particularly liked the Dangerous Donuts post.

What the Flock?

Posted on October 25th, 2005 in Technology by Jim Prince

flock.jpgFriday saw the release of another new Web Browser. Flock is based on the Open Source Mozilla code base and has been released under the GPL license.

My initial impressions are quite positive but at the moment I don’t think it offers much more than Firefox, my current browser of choice.

New James Bond

Posted on October 25th, 2005 in Books and Films by Jim Prince

craig.jpgActor Daniel Craig has been confirmed as the 6th James Bond. He’ll be following in the footsteps of Sir Sean Connery (Great), George Lazenby (Shit), Sir Roger Moore (Ok), Timothy Dalton (Shit but not as shit as George) and Pierce Brosnan (Great but not as great as Sean).

I wonder how Daniel, who has been described as the “the next Steve McQueen”, will compare?

Why you shoudn’t buy from eBay!

phone.jpgWhen I bought my current Mobile, almost 12 months ago now, I also bought a spare fascia from eBay.

Last week I noticed my phone was looking a bit shabby so I fitted the new one. Can you spot the problem? Still I guess it gives it certain uniqueness.

I’m definitely looking forward to December when I can replace the whole phone. I didn’t really like it anyway.

Digital Identities

Posted on October 11th, 2005 in Work by Jim Prince

This afternoon I watched the keynote address from OSCON 2005 by Dick Hardt founder and CEO from Sxip Identity. He touched on some things that have been bugging me for years. His presentation primarily discussed the issues surrounding your online identity.

His presentation is summarised as follows;

“As the online world moves towards Web 2.0, the concept of digital identity is evolving, and existing identity systems are falling behind. New systems are emerging that place identity in the hands of users instead of directories. Simple, secure and open, these systems will provide the scalable, user-centric mechanism for authenticating and managing real-world identities online, enabling truly distinct and portable Internet identities.”

Think of all the times you fill out forms on websites confirming your name, address, age, bank details, usernames, passwords and e-mail addresses. All that duplication, Isn’t it about time we had a better solution? Microsoft tried and failed with .Net passport, maybe this venture will be more successful. I certainly hope so.
