It’s hard to believe anyone would go to those lengths just to work for Microsoft.
So what did you do this weekend?
Something nice I hope. Me, I spent the weekend at work. The whole company has moved to Birmingham Business Park on the other side of the city and I spent the weekend moving and configuring servers, building racks and cabling.
All the mission critical services are now back up and running and we now have a new network Infrastructure based around Cisco VLAN switches, Lucent frames and Siemens IP phones. We’ve also invested around 40k on some additional SUN and Dell Servers.
The acid test comes tomorrow when everyone is back at work.

One of the best things Microsoft do is hardware. I’ve just been looking at the new keyboards and mice and they look great.
Have a look for yourself at activewin.com.
Now they just need to update their game controllers…

I’ve just noticed Steve Bink has mentioned Desktop Sidebar in a recent blog. I’ve been using it for a while now and it really is as good as he says it is.
You can read Steve Bink’s blog at bink.nu.
You can get Desktop Sidebar from desktopsidebar.com
Can you believe this has been going for 40 years? I watched ‘Match of the Day at 40′ at the weekend and it was great to see some classic football moments from the last four decades.
I’m looking forward to the first of the new shows on Saturday evening. You can read about MOTD through the ages here.
It was suggested to me today that Microsoft will be looking to sideline the concept of a Web Browser in favour of a ’smart client alternative’ and that this would take place over the next five years.
I’m not so convinced, the humble web browser isn’t going away anytime soon.
You can read about smart clients here.
This new specification has recently been submitted to W3C.
Microsoft, Sun and IBM have been among the companies involved in its development. WS-Addressing is intended to serve as a basic building block for Web applications to talk to one another (think .Net and J2EE).
I guess this may be one of the advantages of SUN and Microsoft getting into bed with each other.

We’ve had some old cinefilm converted to videotape it included some footage of my Grandparents farm where I spent much of my youth. I’ve converted some of the tape to mpeg it’s not bad considering some of it is nearly 30 years old.
You can view the footage here, I’m the dude in the red shorts.
If you’ve got the bandwidth you can see a larger version here.
